Drinks from the Weekday: June 13

Drink Menu at Honor Bar.

This Wednesday we went to Honor Bar, Grill, And Cocktails. This bar is pretty nice and has unique dishes that go well with the drinks here.

Queen Anne's Revenge: hibiscus-infused gin, grapefruit marmelade, egg white, ginger beer, lemon.

My first drink here was the Queen Anne's Revenge. I ordered this because of the hibiscus-infused gin and the egg white, but these two were the let down of the drink. While the drink tasted good, I could not taste the hibiscus and there wasn't enough egg white to give it the smooth creamy feel you would normally get.

The Von Teese: vodka, st. germain, mathilde poire,  absinthe, peychaud's, lemon.

Next, I got the Von Tesse. The taste was mostly lemon, but the absinthe did come out nicely.

The two drinks I ordered here were just both fruity and sweet, but there are other drinks here that are strong.

Drinks from the Weekday: June 15

Drink Menu from Chevy's.

Berry-Dura Margarita.

Today, I had a Berry-Dura Margarita at Chevy's. Chevy's makes great margaritas and this one is no different. There was a light fuit taste and the pineapple sugar on the rim was a nice addition.

Drinks from the Weekday: June 8

Hue Beer.

The first drink of the day was a Hue Beer from Vietnam. As you can probably tell from the color, this beer is light and refreshing similar to most other Asian beers.

Drink Menu at Tanq.

Lonsdale Lemonade: Makers 46 bourbon, house made honey syrup, fresh squeezed lemon.

Next, we headed over to Tanq, which is in the Marriott Hotel in San Jose. There, I had a Lonsdale Lemonade. The lemon was the prominent flavor of the drink, but I didn't feel that there was enough honey to cut the sourness. The bourbon was good and mixed well.

I Drank That: Breuckelen Distilling Gin

I first heard about Breuckelen Distilling Gin from the documentary Made by Hand, and decided to give it a try. I am really glad I did because this is a unique gin. The flavor is more floral and less juniper than other gins. If you are not a fan of gin because of the pine flavor, this gin will change your mind.

I like drinking this in multiple ways: in a gin and juice, with tonic, or just on the rocks. I imagine it would also make a good martini. You can also see my creation with this Breucklelen gin, which I call the Brooklyn Dream.

Make a Drink: Brooklyn Dream

Brooklyn Dream.

The Brooklyn Dream is my own creation that uses gin from Breuckelen Distilling and Seven Tiki Spiced Rum. The taste is like a creamscicle with a floral note from the gin. The egg white adds a creamy feel and smooths-out the high alcohol content.

Breuckelen Gin and Seven Tiki.

The ingredients and tools.

Ingredients:

2.0 oz orange juice
1.5 oz Breuckelen Gin
1.5 oz Seven Tiki Spiced Rum
.20 oz simple syrup
egg white from one egg (I used 3 Tbsp of pasteurized egg whites from a carton)

Procedure:

Combine all the ingredients in a shaker with 4 or 5 cubes of ice. Shake vigorously. Strain into a lowball glass allowing the foam to form at the top.

Enjoy!

Drinks from the Weekend: June 2

Drink menu at Locanda.

This weekend's only drinks were at Locanda before dinner. This bar always impresses with the top-notch service and attention to detail.

Business Thyme: gin, thyme, honey, lemon.

My first drink was the Business Thyme. The gin, thyme, and honey created this fusion that made it hard to tell where one ended and the next began. These flavors blended so well that I was left wondering if it was the thyme or the gin that created the aftertaste. This was opposed by the lemon which added a sourness to the mix.

Spring Smash: bourbon, strawberry, mint, lemon.

Next was the Spring Smash--a play on the Whiskey Smash. I also enjoyed this drink although it was slightly sour for me. The strawberry and mint just barely came through, but it was enough to differentiate it from a Whiskey Smash.
