Drinks from the Weekend: March 18

Drinks on Sunday started at Alexander's Steakhouse in San Francisco. Alexander's is a great choice for steak and sides. The cocktails, however, seem to lean towards the sweet side.

Drink menu at Alexander's.

Chef Pop: Black Rum, Taylor's Velvet Falernum, lime ginger juice, old-fashioned bitters, ginger ale.

My first drink was the Chef Pop which had a non-overpowering ginger flavor. It had a sweet, citrus taste that worked well.

Drink menu at Alexander's.

Miso Honey: Yamazaki 12yr Japanese Whisky, yuzu juice, Cocchi Americano, Yamajirushi Miso, Branches Citrus Blossom Honey, bitters.

Second drink of the night was Miso Honey which could only be described as kumquats and simple syrup. It was way too sweet and you could barely taste the Yamazaki 12 year. The consensus around the table was that it was a waste of a good whiskey.

Drink menu at Black Bird.

Golden Glove: Zu Vodka, Cocchi Americano, apple juice, celery bitters.

The last drink of the night was at Black Bird. I chose the Golden Glove mainly because I love apple juice as an ingredient and feel that it is really under used. The drink had just enough to add a hint of apple taste and add a slight sweetness. The Golden Glove was similar to a Pimms Cup.

New look and store

A new look for "wong drinks"! I decided to add a store to my blog which required me to change from the dynamic template I was using. I personally like the dynamic viewing and will probably go back to that once the store gadget and template are compatible.

The store is set up with things I have made. You can view the progression of my designs as well as read about them on my other blog "wong makes".

The first items for sale are Key Chain Bottle Openers and you can find the store on the right column.

Thanks!

Drinks at: Park Tavern

Park Tavern: Excellent food and drink!
http://www.parktavernsf.com/

Panhandle: St. George B&E bourbon, Cocchi americano, scotch bitters, Anchor Steam. A bit too herby and citrusy.

Hemingway Daiquiri: White rum, maraschino liquor, grapefruit, lime. It had just the right amount of herbaceous to create a well-balanced drink.

Drinks from Saturday the 10th

El Jardin Tequila Bar & Restaurant: Large selections of drinks. Next time I'm going to try the Caipirinha.

Cadillac Margarita Jardin Pitcher: A very good classic margarita.

Banana Ginger Colada: Sweet and light.

Oryza: Food and drink was just okay.

Drinks from last Friday

Sapporo: Standard Japanese beer. Sad to say this was the best drink of the night.

White Lady: Taste like Pocari Sweat

Hotel Bar Menu at the Fairmonte, San Jose.

Watermelon Frost: Too sweet for my taste.

The Fairmont Bar Menu has over 500 drinks. 10 through 500+ are martinis. Although with all these drinks I didn't have good luck finding one I really like yet.

Franco-Americain: Drink was just okay, I wish it was a little smoother and less tart.

Gin Mule: Hard to mess up--especially with such a good gin. I forgot to take a picture of the drink.

Punchline Punch: A very sweet drink that hides the low grade alcohol well.

I Drank That: Sam'l Smith Strawberry Fruit Ale

A very good natural strawberry flavor with no syrup or cough medicine taste. It also wasn't sweet as compared to a cider.
